All Night Nippon Reproduction

All Night Nippon Reproduction

As a fun project for myself, I decided to make a full reproduction of an All Night Nippon giveaway release. One of the most narrow released titles for the FDS since it was a giveaway from a famous TV show at the time, the ~3000 copy release of this game is one of the most sought after pieces in FDS collecting. Normally fetching thousands of dollars here in The United States, I know now that I will never be able to own a real copy so I decided to doo the next best thing for my personal collection (and a little more...) and make my own.

My background is art production from concept to product so this comes easy for me. I understand the entire process from layout to folding the paper. It is not rocket science, of course, but it does require skills and expertise.

I gathered what I would need. The only "reused" portion of my repro(s) will be thee original Nintendo yellow disk and the hard plastic case. I already have a brand new outer box, I will remake the manual, disk card and labels.

For obvious reasons, I decided to make the disk labels out of metallic material. The last thing I need is someone attempting to pass this off as legit when it is not. I have recreated almost every FDS game label from scratch using Illustrator and Photoshop. They are all not 100% but will unfortunately fool a novice. Luckily, so far, I have not had anyone abuse these at least based on what I have printed and what has been ordered. I will absolutely not fulfill a massive order for the same label in high quantity.

The outer box is a repro made by me. I will link a post about it soon. I had planned to make these available to the masses but the cost was actually more than what I could reasonably sell them for. Here is my box next to an original. Mine are clear and not striped which is fine; clearly a repro.

Next up is the manual. I used high quality scans, imposed the pages and printed them on traditional signatures with the exact paper used on the originals. (80lb Text Glossy). Bound and back cut all by hand. I have to say, they turned out awesome. This was the most challenging portion as attempting to get the images centered on a laser printer back to back was a colossal pain in the ass. So much so, I vowed to never do it again and I mean it.

Finally , the disk card and paper sleeve. I do sell these repro disk cards so check those out. 100% recreated in Illustrator front and back. Everything except the main image is crisp vector graphics. They are machine scored and cut. I print them three up so when you buy them, take advantage of the 40% off for three!

Finally, the whole package put together. I also made a giant "Nerdspaceship Reproduction" label for the back of the box as wel as the circular Diskun flap seal. Also, I only made 5 of them and I am never making anymore. It was way too much work. The seal reads 1 of 5, 2 of 5, etc... I am keeping number 1 and I sold one on eBay a bit ago so there are three left.

I hope you enjoyed this little adventure of mine. Feel free to ask me any questions about them. Although this was fun, as mentioned previously, it is way too much work.
